In Eres Holz: Waisengarten, shared suffering turns intimately human. The title itself holds a quiet ambivalence, whispering of rootlessness and solace. Desperate cries and darkly smoldering uncertainty dissolve into glimmers of celesta and glockenspiel — sparks of light breaking through, unfolding into a sensuous, iridescent beauty.

Also premiered was Waisengarten by the Polish-born Israeli Eres Holz. Fragile sounds cautiously probe through rests and suddenly accumulate into harsh dissonances, which unexpectedly give way to delicate glockenspiel. The sonic symbol of a surreal childhood is then brutally crushed by the grinding mill that resumes once again.

[...] A characteristic ability to merge sounds is found in Holz’ piece Moiré (2006/07) for accordion and clarinet. Complex textures are temporally offset, resulting in a shimmering, iridescent sound.
[...] In Holz’ ensemble work Ein Mensch erkennt, dass er nie Mensch war (2023), the accordion creates an obsessive, ominous rumbling in the background.

Produced by Deutschlandfunk Part 12: My Composing Generation X Recordings by Samir Odeh-Tamimi, Jamilia Jazylbekova, Lisa Streich, Ying Wang, Sarah Nemtsov, Farzia Fallah and Eres Holz
Presented by Frank Kämpfer
Providing emerging musical artists with airtime, a platform, and opportunities for development has long been a tradition at Deutschlandfunk. With the emergence of a rapidly diversifying label landscape around the year 2000, it therefore made sense to also open the Deutschlandfunk Chamber Music Hall to the next generation of composers. Within the framework of CD co-production, a completely new field emerged, enabling selected young authors to be conceptually supported in their development. At the same time, an editorial self-understanding began to take shape in which support was combined with challenge and responsibility. In this final episode of the series, producer Frank Kämpfer outlines the collaboration with seven composers – from Samir Odeh-Tamimi, born in 1970, to Lisa Streich, born in 1985.
