Forum neuer Musik 2020 - „Dunkle Risse“ von Eres Holz
Excerpt
The Berlin composer Eres Holz touches on questions of existential dimension. It is about crossing borders, about the unconditional search for oneself. The Cologne Asasello Quartet precedes the world premiere of Holz' String Quartet by Henry Purcell.
Eres Holz's great string quartet also relies on emotions; it is inspired by thoughts of crossing borders and internal state of extremity.

Eres Holz's string quartet, which will be premiered at the Forum neuer Musik 2020, is called „Dunkle Risse“ (en: “Dark rifts”). In the five-movement piece, the voices of the Asasello Quartet merge into a homogeneous body of sound. The acoustic setting should appear mysterious and scary. Holz does not want to develop a deceptive paradise in his music, but rather raise questions about fears and existential situations. That means facing the contradictions of life creatively.
