How "moments of pause" (DE: "Momente des Innehaltens") can manifest musically was demonstrated by the ensemble XXI. century, conducted by Peter Burwik, at a concert in the Vienna Concert Hall featuring three new compositions: Austrian clarinetist and composer Petra Stump-Linshalm addressed, without accusation, the careless handling of plastic by contemporary society and the resulting waste in her piece "KUN | ST | OFF" for ensemble (2023). Teaching in Berlin, Israeli composer Eres Holz developed his own composition software and successfully experimented with electronic soundscapes. Regarding his new piece DEATH for two bass clarinets, live electronics, and light (2023), he says: "Aesthetic design is not the focus here, but rather the exploration of existential questions. I aim to create music that does not remain abstract but delves deeply into the realms of the psyche."

Onur Türkmen refers to the traditional scales of Turkish classical music, the "Maqams," in his latest work "Hâl" for ensemble (2023). Born in Turkey in 1972, the composer continues his artistic approach of merging the music of his homeland with contemporary aesthetics.

These three artistic perspectives, delving into deeply personal themes, were premiered by the Viennese ensemble XXI. century under the direction of its founding conductor Peter Burwik on October 17, 2023, at the Vienna Concert Hall, and excerpts can be heard in the current issue of "Zeit-Ton."
